RIP TPB
This week brings more death, this time to one of the most popular torrent sites known on the web, The Pirate Bay. The battle between the creators of TPB and the Swedish Court has been well underway for awhile now, striking a heavy blow to TPB for copyright infringement fine in excess of around $3.6 mil USD. After continually saying they weren't gonna pay the huge fine and take it further down the court system, it looks like all of a sudden they sold off the site to some Swedish software firm called "Global Gaming Factory X" (welcome to the Xander Zone!!) for $7.7 mil USD.
The software firm said that they plan on turning TPB into a legal version of it's former self, hoping to pay the copyright holders for whatever is posted on the site in the future (sounds like it may be subscription based). TPB founders haven't said too much, other than they sold it as a means to help keep the site going. I assume that they either got fed up with the whole thing and caved in, or are planning for the future since they were all sentenced to spend at least 1 year in jail (coupled with the 3.6 mil fine). Either way, TPB as a free source of torrents is effectively killed, RIP TPB.
