Left 4 Dead Multiplayer Hands-On

Just read a hands-on review of the multiplayer from Left 4 Dead and thought I had to put it up on the blog. Though the review is quite long I'll instead try my best to summarize it. Probably will be the same length as the review but whatever.

Alright the multiplayer, or versus, consists of a 4v4 combat system. The maps are close quarters with lots of obstacles in your way other than the zombies, such as doors and levels in buildings. You switch sides every round accomplished or failed so that you get to play both as a survivor and a zombie.

Though survivors have no special ability, just whatever weapon you happen to pick up and use from your spawn point which is a safe zone, the zombies, 4 of them, have their own special roles in taking the survivors down.
  • The Boomer - As you can see hes a very large man. He can vomit some nasty stuff on you, such as mutated fetuses, which can blind you, or just fugg up yo visionz son, and anyone around you because it's an aoe, area-of-effect. He can also alert his zombie homies that he has spotted the survivors thus in turn gives the other zombies some Nikes because they run real fast. Hold on let me look over the review. Ok yeah they run with their Nikes. If he dies he explodes and this also does an aoe damage. His role is to distort the survivors sight and alert the other zombies to come help you.
  • The Smoker - I think he mutated on that nicotine sahn! Basically he just uses his tongue to snatch you from 50 feet away, so RUN with them Nike Jordans you got on! I guess his role is just to snatch one of the survivors while his/her teammates are distracted and punch punch kick his prey.
  • The Hunter - This fool got his Nikes a bit early this christmas. He can run fast and climb up buildings, only ones that he's allowed to climb, and "pounce", what Gamespot calls it, the hell outta yous. His role is to attack a survivor while everyone is distracted too I guess.
  • The Tank - Ok basically this dude has a steroid problem. He can lift concrete off the ground and chuck it at you along with cars. He has very high hit points, health, which means that it might take a while for the survivors to bring him down. Now from what I read it happens that even John Rambo can't take this bad boy down himself, it requires the whole squad to kill the tank. Basically he's a bad mofo.

The "classes" of the infected, zombies, are choosed by random which means no moaning about someone hogging any infected zombie dude. If an infected dies they are able to respawn anywhere on the map, anywhere, respawn, anywhere. Respawn. This means throughout the round the survivors are going to take a lot of beatings, the survivors get no respawns.

This can seem a whole one sided but I assure you that it's best to be left this way. Imagine all the chaos you and your squad just went through to reach the end. You feel that gamer pride, hell yeah sahn! The acknowledgement of kicking some infected ass.

As you can see this game requires MASSIVE teamwork. MASSIVE. That's dope. Sahn.

Oh yeah, this old dude's name is really Bill. I jumped up and cheered when I found this out. WOOT!
